FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Condon Announces Upcoming Summit Street Traffic and Parking Changes

Condon, OR — The City of Condon is moving forward with important traffic and parking improvements along Summit Street, designed to increase safety, improve visibility, and provide more efficient parking options in the downtown area. These changes were formally adopted by city ordinance in September and will take effect on January 1, 2026.

As part of the new regulations, the south side of Summit Street will be reconfigured to provide nine diagonal parking spaces. These spaces will offer safer, more orderly parking for residents, customers, and visitors, and will be accessible from Oregon Street, creating a clear and predictable traffic pattern.

To enhance safety at the busy intersection of Summit Street and Main Street, the City will install bollards at the southeast corner. These bollards will prevent vehicles from parking too close to the intersection, improving sightlines and reducing the risk of accidents in an area with frequent pedestrian and vehicle activity.

Under the new regulations, U-turns into the parking area near Two Boys Meat & Groceries will no longer be permitted. Instead, drivers will be required to use the newly designated diagonal spaces along the south side of Summit Street. This adjustment is intended to eliminate unsafe turning movements and ensure smoother traffic flow.

The City of Condon is working in coordination with the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office, which has reviewed the coming changes for traffic safety and will assist with public education and enforcement as the effective date approaches.

The city encourages residents to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes ahead of the January 1, 2026, implementation date. Additional updates will be shared as signage, striping, and bollard installation move forward.

For questions about the new regulations or the implementation schedule, please contact Condon City Hall at 541-384-2711 or email admin@cityofcondon.com. Ongoing updates will also be posted on the City’s website at www.cityofcondon.com.
